Dr. Travis Westermeyer

Foot and Ankle Surgeon

Dr. Westermeyer is a Diplomate of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He has pioneered pediatric surgical procedures and has extensive experience in foot and ankle surgeries, including tendon transfers of the lower leg of the pediatric and adult patient population. Dr. Westermeyer also treats various sports medicine injuries conservative and surgically. He has been instrumental in cooperative patient care between physicians and podiatrists in San Diego County, and has spoken extensively throughout the West Coast. He is one of 17 doctors in the Westermeyer family. His father and uncles were all surgeons. He grew up watching his father do Oral Maxillo Facial surgeries.

Dr. Westermeyer is in private practice,
with offices in Escondido and Encinitas.

He chaired the Podiatry Department at Palomar Medical Center for many years and currently has surgical privileges at and affiliations with Palomar Medical Center in Escondido, Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, Escondido Surgery Center and Center for Surgery in Encinitas. Dr. Travis Westermeyer is also a co-director of the Scripps Foot and Ankle Surgical Residency Training program.

Travis Westermeyer, D.P.M., is a graduate of Loma Linda University with a B.S. in biology. He received his D.P.M. from California College of Podiatric Medicine in San Francisco and completed his podiatric surgical residency at the Jerry Pettis Veteran’s Hospital, Loma Linda, California.

Additionally, Dr. Westermeyer has a command of biomechanical science and also has been an avid competitive athlete all of his life. So he not only understands the aspirations of the sports medicine patient but understands the quickest way to recover from sports injuries. Dr. Westermeyer used to run 25 miles a week but has given up running for cycling 150 miles per week and consistently does weight training to stay competitive at surfing, skiing, snowboarding, golfing, organized motorcycle road racing and racquet sports.

Dr. Westermeyer is 5th generation California native. His great, great grandfather was an early settler in the “Hidden Valley” of Escondido in the 1800’s. Dr. and Mrs. Westermeyer reside in Encinitas while all three of their grown children reside in North County San Diego
